Video Game Reviews of Prince of PersiaCustomer Review: Not really sure about this one Summary: 3 StarsPrince of Persia's first installment on Xbox 360 is a big change from the earlier franchise, and if it weren't for the wall running and crazy acrobatics, I would say they should have given the series a new name.
This new Prince of Persia game is absolutely beautiful to look at. At first all the levels are dark and eerie which they pull off well, but then when you free the land, it all becomes a stunningly beautiful site. The actual characters a little cartoony looking, it looks like they used a similar technique that was used for Crackdown, but only for the people. Also on the plus side are the controls when running, jumping, climbing, etc.
Unfortunately, there are a whole bunch of problems. First is the combat system. It's horrific. Why, when in the older PoP games could I fight ten enemies at once, now I can only fight one at a time. Some of the boss guys look pretty cool but they're easy to take down because first of all, you can't die. WHAT KIND OF VIDEOGAMES MAKES IT WHERE YOU CANNOT DIE?! Also, you have only four moves, which you can string together in combinations of your choosing, but it's still only four moves. You have to fight each boss five or more times, which becomes tedious, even if some of them can be killed in 30 seconds by pushing them off the edge of the stage (What is this, Soul Caliber?) What I'm getting from this is that they tried to make a God of War-like battle system (Simple, big on button mashing, with indicative icons that appear on the screen and tell you what buttons to hit), alas, this can't even touch God of War.
Power Plates are another annoying feature. They make your character fly and run veritically up walls and do a whole bunch of impossible stuff, which is fine I guess but it takes away from the complexity of the platforming aspect. This makes the game too easy to the point where you could beat it in a week. Also, when you fall, your teamate saves you, so once again, you can't die.
The plot for any PoP game has never been all too complex but this one could have been thrown together very quickly. God gets out. God causes havoc. Prince undoes havoc. End. The only thing interesting about the plot is that it slowly reveals bits and pieces about your teammate Elika's past, so that the picture isn't really complete until the very end. Even so, it's a pretty simplistic picture. You're left at the end feeling a little cheated and very unsatisfied, because you just started to actually care about what happens to your characters and then poof, it's over, set up for a sequel no doubt.
Lastly, there is the dialogue. They tried to make this new prince all witty and edgy, but again, they failed. The result is a bunch of mistepped one-liners that make you want to cringe. (The worst being "Y'know, if you really wanted to win back your daughter's acceptance, you could have just bought her a pony. This apocalypse business, just doesn't cut it" or something god-awful like that)
With this game, Ubisoft got their foot in the door, but that's all they did. If they want to make this into a trilogy like the original Prince of Persia they're going to have to learn from the bountiful mistakes of this game and try to fix most of them before the next one. Otherwise they are going to prove to us that they are unable to balance this franchise and Assassin's Creed at once.
Customer Review: Great addition to the franchise, but a bit repetative Summary: 3 StarsThis installation of the Prince of Persia series seems to get back to its roots with more emphasis on the agility of the prince as well as puzzle solving as Sands of Time was. The game looks beautiful, I love the semi-cell-shaded look of the game and the transitions from desolate to thriving with life areas are pretty amazing looking. The only downfall of this game is the repetitive nature of it. You will find yourself revisiting the same areas over and over again, and doing the same handful of daredevil-type agility moves to get from place to place. The addition of the magic from Elika really only serves to make the game seem too easy as you can really never die. If you fall from a jump, Elika will just grab you and transport you back to the last level ground you were at. Also, if an enemy you are fighting is beating your @$$, and they land what should be a fatal blow, Elika will save you and all that happens is the enemy regains a good bit of his health back.
All in all, a fun game, but the repetitiveness of the game leaves it a bit lacking, especially in replayability.
Customer Review: Great Game Summary: 5 StarsGreat game overall, nice art, pretty good soundscape, fun gameplay, etc. Not only that, but I got this on the $20 dollar deal and for some reason got a free upgrade to the limited edition. That made it even more worth it. And as usual, amazon has fast and great shipping.
Customer Review: prince of suck is more like it Summary: 3 Starsthis game begs the question,if you had like ten really cool moves but you had to do them over and over and over and over, would the game still be fun?thats right, you move around like you are in a 1980s video game where each move could be your last.so getting around is a real chore.the moves are cool to move around but like in the matrix and mortal kombat, the moves get old fast.plus given that all the moves only serve to move prince around, its like i said ,old.then every once in a really long time there is a monster.prince moves around like a baby so cool combos and breath taking breakneck speeds are out.he fights by cramming the buttons down in a pattern.you will definately get a cramp like we havent felt since nascar.then theres the map which makes no sense and offers no way to decipher it.and lastly it has one thing i hate in any video game....puzzles.I HATE PUZZLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!if i wanted to do puzzles i would have bought a puzzle game.this game promises great big worlds, game of the year quality, and so much more.but all ive seen is a guy who can jump around like a monkey playing around in the desert.the fighting is bad.movement is a total chore.the maps are weird and the story is like sands in an hourglass.now,i will say that this game could be fun.however, you will need to look up walkthroughs on the net, maybe buy the big book that tells how to get through and definately have someone around who knows how to do stuff.heck,i cant even find any good cheat codes for this game.dont belive the hype.this game is not i repeat NOT STELLAR!It can be fun but keep your expectations low.
Customer Review: what happened? Summary: 1 Starsthe prince of persia game series has been one of my favorite series for the shear fun factor. take away a breathtaking story, engaging characters, amazing fight mechanics and the wall running trap dodging puzzles are plenty fun all on their own. well in this one they DID take away all the things that made POP fun, and then they simplified the wall running and made it not fun anymore.
the combat is simplistic and it holds your hand the whole way, in case you've never played a video game before in your life the game pauses itself and indicated when to block, ALWAYS, at first i thought it was tutorial, but no, right up until i stopped playing the game would give me a nice litle indicator screen to block with, if you fail the block however you just get knocked down... thats all... i can't imagine who thought it was a good idea to have the combat on the level of playing with duplo blocks.
the animation i can udnerstand, and it works well for the game, the overall feal of the game is suposed to be magical so the fudging and cel shaded style of it all comes off rather nicley except elika being damn barefoot all the time did piss me off though i'm not sure why.
the free running is all on the same button as jump this time around and being used to the tight easy to learn/hard to master controlls of POP2 and 3 i felt like a guy who learned how to ride a dirtbike only to be stuck on a tricycle for 3 hours.
no, i can't recomend this game to any one other than toddlers, or people looking to get into video games but have poor hand/eye coordination.
