Video Game Reviews of Prince of PersiaCustomer Review: An all-new Prince. Summary: 3 StarsThis game I can't consider one of the best from the saga, but at least it has innovative graphics and a good dose of free-running style I usually enjoy. The bad part may be how easy and short the game is, if you are a regular player and have some time playing this kind of games, you will finish it in less than a weekend.
Customer Review: Wait - How is He a Prince? Summary: 2 StarsPrince of Persia is an okay game. It's okay. It's fun for the most part, but repetitive and sometimes frustrating--even more frustrating, really, because the frustrating parts are supposed to be "rewards," at least, in the context of the game. This is, of course, a running and jumping game, although I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as Mirror's Edge, or the far superior and much more open Assassin's Creed. Mostly, this is just a matter of pushing the right button at the right time. No real exploration is even necessary, unless you're a completionist.
But there were a few design and production notes that actually detracted from the overall experience for me. First, the main character, the "Prince" (of Persia? he certainly doesn't have any indication of royalty in the game), looks ridiculously. His bulging muscles and huge square pecs are laugh-out funny, so over the top, and his face looks kinda like Rocky after losing a big fight. Also, he has this stupid looking purple scarf that makes one eye all squinty. I usually don't give a second thought to character design but this one looks so ridiculously that it distracted me.
But not as much as the horrendous, cliched dialogue. Instead of inventing a character here, they made him the sarcastic, caustic smart alec type that you've seen a million times before. Every single word out of his mouth is a cliche or ripped off from a million different sources. He's an absolute jerk (excuse me, I mean "cool" and "free-spirited") and the banter between him and the pretty side kick is nauseating. Seriously, this is some of the worst writing I've ever come across. It's tired and obnoxious from the moment he first speaks.
Add to that a plot that strikes absolutely zero for originality--and I just wish that the designers and writers had tried a bit harder, instead of copying what has been done to death. If you can get past this stuff, it's worth a rental. Unresponsive controls and some poor programming get in the way, but it can be fun for a bit, anyway.
Customer Review: Game Bores me to sleep and a little tears! Summary: 1 StarsI was such a huge fan of the Prince of Persia series until this sucky one was realsed. There is hardly little to no figthing and when you do fight, the fighting is repetive and boring. Also all of the guards are the same and fight the same way. Another fact that annoyed me about this game was that you can't die because Elika always saves you; I thought that was annoying. Also theres also no real places to go to and the storylines were very boring and you can't skip them ethier. Save your money and your time but if you want to try it anyway just do [...] for nights rental. I am pretty sure that you will take it back the very same night.
Customer Review: good buy Summary: 3 StarsFast Delivery. Not as good as the other games but very entertaining. Great game for $20.
Customer Review: too easy and too hard Summary: 4 StarsThe exploring aspect of this Prince of Persia is much easier than past versions, which I didn't mind, but it really was a breeze at times. I got the 'Speed Demon' achievement on the first (and only) run through. The combat system, on the other hand, is easily the low point of the game. It is not intuitive, restrictive in design, and not very much fun (especially for a Ninja Gaiden 2 fanatic like myself). I basically learned a couple combos and just kept using them. I was never able to do a long combo set, and honestly didn't even care to. The game looks great though with gorgeous environments and the voice acting is top notch. Worth a play for sure, but not a top pick.
