Video Game Reviews of Grand Theft Auto IVCustomer Review: Grand Theft Auto IV Summary: 4 StarsOn Sunday, I purchased Mario Kart Wii. It wasn't too difficult to put that game down in order to play this one. I'm not going to be like most people and jump on the bandwagon. I like the game a lot, but probably for a different reason than most...
I agree with most post that driving is a little more difficult. It's like the cars have no brakes at times. You can learn to get used to it, but it still is a pain. I'm not much of an online gamer, however, it was great how quick and easy it was to hook up online, even if it was just to go and shoot things up.
Cons:
1. Driving controls. Easy to go forward and reverse, but a pain to stop or to negotiate even a light corner.
2. The music somehow needs to be a little louder with 5.1 surround. It's better than previous editions of gta.
3. I meant to add that if you are setting a waypoint using the gps for yourself, it's difficult to see the dark green line. I prefer the bright yellow or the red that the game gives you during a mission. (the only time i had a red was when I had to climb up to the train station to shoot the guy after chasing him on the motorcycle.)
Pros:
1. I will say graphics, but, i'm not going to freak out like a lot of people have. I grew up on the atari 2600 with a yellow and purple basketball "players" shooting a square ball.
2. The best thing of this game is the languages and the situations are extremely spot on. To the person who complained about being unable to understand the accented english, then turn on the subtitles. I do that regardless. I served over in Bosnia (US Army) working as a translator, and the actor does an astounding job of representing his pain of killing people or even seeing children lined up against the wall of a church with their throats cut. Someone had to have been soldier during the breakup of Yugoslavia and is now on the rockstar staff. If you think there is a racism epidemic in the US, then go witness firsthand in Bosnia of what it truly is like. To get your throat cut simply for saying Hvala lepo instead of hvala lijepo or hvala ljepo. THe people of the former Yugoslavia are among the most intelligent and dedicated people I have ever met, with the exception of all the warfare and the atrocities of not just ethnic cleansing, but other barbaric means of torture that makes waterboarding look like a whipping with a wet noodle. i definitely applaud Rockstar for the attention to detail in this aspect.
Customer Review: It is Grand Theft Auto, afterall Summary: 5 StarsHere's what I don't think many people touch on in their reviews, or maybe I just don't read enough of them. This game is Grand Theft Auto, it's not anything else so don't expect it to be, much like I did.
That said, yes I was a little disappointed when I first started playing GTA IV after several very long, anxious days at work before its release. The reason being that I was spoiled by games like Saints Row etc.. and forgot how the GTA series played. Yeah Saints Row is a rip-off in many respects but it is not the same game at all.
With this new installment I expected the GTA series to evolve, but it didn't, it upgraded. Yes the graphics are better, the characters are more real, the physics engine is pretty darn awesome, the combat is more fun, the list goes on but ultimately the game is what it is. If no one told you this game was GTA before you played it, you would be able to tell by the way NPCs move and act, the way you learn things with on-screen dialog, the way the character controls, and just the general feel of the game. Certain aspects have been the exact same for years, ever since GTA III.
If you found some of these aspects annoying, (like not being able to simply move a foot in one direction to get closer to a rack of clothing without passing it up entirely because there is no fine movement at all) it is irritating and quite frankly makes the game actually feel very dated.
Instead of droning on... If you expect this to be an improved version of Grand Theft Auto, you're going to love it. (with some possible exceptions like the driving mechanics). Everything you yearned for from previous GTA's is back and better than ever. However, if you wanted the next-gen evolution of a sandbox, do whatever the hell you feel like it game with mind-blowing innovations and new things to learn about and do, you will most likely be disappointed.
After coming to this realization I found the game much more enjoyable and that's why I gave it five stars. As a GTA game, that's what it deserves.
Customer Review: Great game Summary: 5 StarsThis is one of the greatest games I've played (so far). I love all the games in the Grand Theft Auto series and this is the best one. The soundtrack is amazing and I love the fact that you can buy the music here on Amazon too (I've already got my soundtrack). The scripting and voice talent/acting is amazing too. You really feel like you're watching a movie sometimes. The driving is smooth and responsive, the weapons handle and sound great; although they can be frustrating at times when enemies come from behind you - but nothing that lessens your gameplay experience. Overall I love this game.
Customer Review: Grand Theft Auto IV Rocks! Summary: 4 StarsWhile visiting my friend out of state, GTA IV become available. Much to my surprise, it is not available for us poor suckers that only have a PS2. Luckily my friend has the PS3 and we went ahead and purchased it. We have been playing non-stop for the lat 48 hours. Overall this game is pretty decent.
With quick scene changes and a great storyline, this does hold the GTA fans interests. There is plenty to say about this game that we love but I do want to mention a few things that may turn you off. There are plenty of great reviews, so I wanted to bring a few things up to the possible purchaser.
The biggest thing we have heard through online forums is that the game has been freezing on about 50% of the people. It doesn't seem to matter if you have the PS version of Xbox. We have luckily not had this occur. Some people say it happen once and after reinstalling it went away, other have issues every 15 minutes. Looks like a hit and miss to me. Sony and Rockstar are looking into this matter as we speak.
The second issue is that some people have to compete the "Logging Online" mission before actually being able to play the multiplayer version. Are game forced us to play it but other friends did not. Not sure if there are different versions on this or not. People are having difficulties logging on and says it takes many times before being able to do it. The online experience is wonderful though once you are in there. Plenty of different missions to choose from which make it worth while.
You can not change your vehicle color and add rims like the older version. I do miss that but you really don't feel the need for it after awhile. The customization was something I missed but now I hardly think about it.
Okay, so there you have it. Overall game is great like I said before. Graphics are awesome and going in and out of buildings is flawless with no lag time. The only thing I can recommend for future version is please have the cops chase me after I blow a red light right in front of them! Now that would be sweet! Happy gaming everyone and I will see you online. ;o)
Customer Review: Simply Amazing Summary: 5 StarsI'm not going to waste time making an in-depth review, there are tons of them out there.
I'll just say, the graphics, physics, etc are absolutely amazing. The storyline itself is great. I've probably completed about 10-15 missions, and the way the game makes you feel like you're actually part of a complex and evolving plot is simply incredible.
Whether you liked past Grand Theft Auto games or not... this is a must buy.
