Customer Review: WARNING
Summary: 1 Stars

Before you buy it do a search on the "Red Ring of Death" (RRoD), Or just anything about "flashing red lights" and "xbox 360". They should put a warning in their ads or something. I got the RRoD, I know a few people who got the RRoD, and I don't really know too many people with an xbox 360. Based on that and just all the other people an internet search will show have gotten the problem, makes it seem to me like a common problem. Basically if you see those lights there's something wrong with your system and you can't play it. Sure there is a 3yr warranty to fix it, from what I understand only for the 3 red lights. Only 1yr for the 2 red lights, supposed 'overheating' fault, which I eventually got during a 10min game session and continue to get every once in a while. Even still with the warranty you have to send your system in to get it repaired or replaced with a refurbished system, which takes about a month to get resolved. It's pretty annoying paying so much for a system and not being able to play it. The problem is common enough I'm not putting any more money into their system. All I'm trying to do is warn you of something I didn't know, other than that the quality of it's games is fine. Same old same old, just flashier graphics, as expected. I'm just frustrated with Xbox and I'm going to try and not spend any more money on Xbox and save up to get a PS3. If you're looking for something new and original get a wii, other than that for graphics and more mature games get PS3. Anyways I just think people should know the risks they're taking, maybe by now the problem has been addressed with a better answer than a warranty extension, but I'm just telling you my experience.

Customer Review: fun while it worked
Summary: 5 Stars

I just received my X-box. It was an upgrade from the old x-box I have and still have it. I played the X-box 360 for one day,ONE DAY and already had the 3 red ring of death, WTF!!!! I should bought the playstation 3. The old X-box is still going strong.

Customer Review: XBOX 360 Elite is a good buy
Summary: 5 Stars

I have the Resident Evil 5 Elite package (but aside from the games, I think it is the same equipment).

This is my first console, and although I had heard that a lot of people had problems with the 360 and the PS3, I decided to try the new Jasper chip.

So far, it has worked really well. If you can connect it to the internet to download the New Xbox Experience (a firmware update), you get a vastly improved interface, which also lets you copy games to the hard drive for faster and quieter loading (you still need the disc in the drive).

I don't have HDTV myself, but I've brought it over to friend's houses that do, and it looks great. Can't wait to eventually do the upgrade myself. On an analog TV, it isn't quite as crisp, it looks like an analog signal on a digital television.

I think the 360 is a good buy because it has accessories like the hard drive, the HDMI cable, optical output ports, and such.

I have only had two issues, but they are almost non-issues:

- the network cable that came with mine didn't work for some reason. It wasn't really a big deal because I have plenty of others. Still...

- the unit does not always seem to play games standing up. I usually have mine laying down anyways, but I have noticed it not read a disc when upright.

Overall, I recommend the Elite, and getting the New Xbox Experience if you can, even if you don't plan to play games online.

Customer Review: Differences between 360 versions / Transferring data between 360s
Summary: 5 Stars

The only difference between the Elite version and the other two, cheaper versions is the hard drive capacity. 120 GB is a ton of space. Most people would struggle to fill up 60 GB (standard for the next step down). If you don't plan on installing a bunch of games to the hard drive or downloading a bunch of Live Arcade titles, game add-ons, or HD movies and TV shows, then don't get the Elite. Save a hundred bucks and get the Pro.

Don't bother with the Arcade version. You're going to want a hard drive, and buying one separately can be more expensive than just buying it bundled with the console.

Comparisons aside, I bought this to replace my launch 360, which came with a 20 GB drive. If you need to transfer the contents of your drive from a previous 360 to the Elite, you have two options:

1) Upon receipt of the Elite, order a transfer cable from Microsoft. It's free, but it can take a while to get to you. [...]

2) Use a memory card to transfer game saves and profiles. I used a 64 MB card to transfer all of my game saves. It was a pain, but it worked. Anything that you downloaded over Xbox Live can be re-downloaded on a new console (provided your Live profile is on it), so that stuff doesn't need to be manually transferred.

There are some profile-related files that wouldn't transfer for me, but I haven't noticed missing or incorrect information on my new Xbox.
