Video Game Reviews of Halo Wars Limited

Customer Review: Halo Wars
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a marvelous game made by Ensemble Studios, creators of the Age of Empires series. They have undoubtably made a good and addicting form of entertainment, while still demonstrating that RTS can work on console. I have played through the game's campaign, and even tried the engaging multiplayer, and might I say that this is suprisingly funner than most games on the 360. My only flaw with this game would be that, though the RTS controls are much better, they aren't offically working in some parts.

The Limited Edition is definitely worth it if you are a true Halo fan. You will be given a comic book which contains valuable Halo Lore, 3 of the Halo 3 Mythic Maps, and a Spirit of Fire Patch for you to put on your Gamer Coat.

Customer Review: A Well-Designed Game
Summary: 4 Stars

Halo Wars' controls really make this a great game as they really help streamline gameplay and minimize the learning curve of an in-depth strategy game. The graphics are stunning, the missions are fun, and the quirks that the skulls add are both highly entertaining and can change the game in significant ways.

The only downside is that you cannot play as the Covenant. It has to be coming as they have some tutorials that allow you to play as Covenant, but it's not an option right now. If they are going to charge extra for it, I will feel ripped off as traditionally you can play as both sides in games like this that you purchase (e.g. Starcraft), and that is what I was expecting from when I downloaded the demo and ran through the tutorial that includes a tutorial on Covenant forces.

Customer Review: Instant Classic!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the best video games of all time! Huge Halo fan, and have always wanted a Halo RTS, without the modding of other RTS games, and finally this comes out! Even without Bungie working on this title, you can tell it's still Halo. The controls are easy to the use with the Xbox 360, and is very adicting to me. The soundtrack for the game is AMAZING, even without O'Donnell this time it still has that Halo sound. The environments are outstanding, and I love how the Marines and Grunts, still make those little comments like they do in the first person shooters. Even the vehicles (especially the Warthog) act, drive, jump, blow up, etc. JUST LIKE IN THE FPS!!! I'll admit they could have added or done more to the game, but it is still very good how it is...even if your not a Halo fan this game is HIGHLY recommended. 15/10

Customer Review: Not Halo...maybe a remade Age of Empires?
Summary: 1 Stars

If you're a fan of Halo, I doubt you'll be a fan of this game. The graphics are terrible, campaign is very boring...definitely nothing that will get your adrenaline pumping, online mode is okay at best, and overall the game is very mediocre. I would suggest downloading a demo or renting this game before buying.

Customer Review: Pure fun!
Summary: 5 Stars

Halo Wars. It relies on the same systems of unit management, resource and technology management and multitasking that have made as many fans of the genre as it puts off. However, with the console-only focus comes a refreshing emphasis on action and speed over complex tech trees and endless staggered menu systems. As the story goes, the events of Halo Wars take place 20 years before the original Halo on Xbox - an era where the human-led UNSC are fighting a losing battle against the ever-growing Covenant threat across planets in various stages of colonisation. There are also plenty of Spartans alive and kicking, as well as ODSTs (Orbital Drop Shock Troops) and a host of cool new battlefield armaments.

Missions in the core single-player campaign have a more action-oriented focus to them. Some missions, such as an early stage located on an idyllic vacation planet, have you defending transport carriers who are ferrying out civilians as the Covenant storm in. Others have you travelling from waypoint to waypoint, gathering up disparate units and protecting locations before clearing out a central threat in the area.

Multiplayer in its own right is a lot of fun. Up to six players can start off on maps that play off the visual cues of the single player game - lush greens and blues of Earth-like planets, ice fields, sour and muddy battlefields and blends of the three. The pattern follows the basic single-player formula - start with your preset plot of land, build a base, construct troops and so on.

It's also worth mentioning that the limited edition version comes with the Halo 3 Mythic Map pack, containing three new maps to expand Halo 3's multiplayer reach, as well as the nicely illustrated hardbound graphic novel, a unique in-game Wraith and an always thrilling iron-on badge and some art cards. A great game.
