Customer Review: Gears of War 2 is almost perfected a year later

First off Gears 2 is great by itself. The story alone is well worth the price of admission. I am biased as I am a huge fan of the series. Horde mode is fun and several games are copying it to some degree (see Nazi Zombies and Firefight). But multiplayer is very, very, very hit and miss. If you are pulling host you will most likely enjoy it but may the good lord help you if you are not because you will get very frustrated. The new all fronts collection is also a very nice addition to an already great game. Anyway I hope you will give the game a day in court as it is well worth it.Customer Review: One of the few games that didn't bore me

Most games bore me after a few plays, this is one of the few games that did not and that I actually played to the end. A near perfect shooter; smart, smooth and fun. I actually purchased my 360 to play Ace Combat, but I would have purchased it after playing this game if I had not done so before.
This game has decent voice work, a great story and perfectly designed levels. A must have, as a PS3 fanboy I still appreciate the 360 for games like this; if you can afford an Arcade unit, get this game and you'll agree the 360 has some power in that case.

I enjoyed the first game immensely and when the second game came out my curiosity lead me to purchase it. The graphics were amazing as they were in the last one, the story line was great for an action game, and there was tons of fighting and action throughout the entire game. I felt that inbetween the movies there was never a dull moment. Also a great game to get an easy bunch of achievements. The only negative thing I would have to say about the game was the ending. Not only was the ending a cliffhanger for the next gears of war but the last "boss" if you want to call it that was nothing special or spectacular. If I'm at the last boss of a game I'd like it to be challenging and amazing. Not so much in this game but I still had tons of fun playing it. I loved the co-op as well. It's more fun to play with others. Anyways, four out of five stars definately. Enjoy!Customer Review: More of the same (not a bad thing)

More expansive environments, still very linear but I didn't find it enough to distract from play. Controls are tight and responsive, still one of the best "cover" mechanics around, including the introduction of "mobile cover meatshields."
Designers gave this much more variety than the first episode, as you ride and control more vehicles and venture into more new surroundings than just war-torn buildings and caverns, such as outdoors, inside palaces, and inside creatures. Really beautiful vistas and I didn't notice any game slowdown or framerate problems, although the number of enemies on screen at one time could be high.
Musical score is sweeping and majestic, voice acting is superb and the same actors carry over from the first game.
Single-player story length is somewhat short, but cooperative and competitive modes provide a lot of replayability. The story provides more of a human element to the characters than the first game, but certainly not on par with Bioshock or Mass Effect.
SUMMARY: If you enjoyed the first game or like shooters in general, you'll enjoy this one. It is surely discounted by now and well worth your $40 investment. If you don't like shooters, I would still recommend a rental - it just might change your mind about the genre.
