Video Game Reviews of Gears of War 2Customer Review: Meathead Gaming 101 Summary: 4 StarsThis game in the daddy of action meat headed gaming and I love every bit of its meaty headed goodness (killzone 2 says hello also). The storyline in the game has plenty of holes in it so good luck on that part. The game play is Gears of war, great mechanics better enemies and the stages are awesome (not a fan of the worm stage but I understand) Great buy! Replay value is great because of the Horde mode, the multi player has all the glitchy goodness you expect from a Gears of war game so expect some unfair craziness when you play multiplayer VS.
Customer Review: A Solid Sequel, But Not As Good As Gears of War 1 Summary: 4 StarsFirst of all the graphics are once again above and beyond, especially if you compare it to other games like Dragon Age: Origins and The Way of the Samurai 3.
Some of the things I thought needed more effort was the storyline and weapon variety. There are more weapons, but mostly big, hulky ones that you can't really carry around like the sniper rifle and shotgun. I was looking forward to new weapons and was very dissapointed in that sense. The story was even worse than that first. Although its not something I focus on, I thought it was a sorry excuse for a plot. At least in the first one you knew what was going on and what you were fighting for and so on. In the sequel, you're just baffled by what's happening.
The gameplay is where this game shines, still a fun, aggressive shooter. I'm personally not a fan of most stealth-styled shooters like Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell or Rainbow Vegas. There's no fun in blowing someone's head off when you have to make sure no one is watching. So you will not be upset with the single player or co-op campaign, although there is no real boss at the end like General RAAM from the first - which I was kind of looking forward to.
I thought the multiplayer wasn't as good as the first also as far as ranking system and just all around wasn't as fun for some reason. As long as people are still playing Gears of War 1 online, I'll stick to that as well as Modern Warfare 2 & Halo 3.
In comparison, I thought Gears of War 1 to Gears of War 2 was similar to what most people thought about Modern Warfare to World At War, good sequel but the previous game was great.
Customer Review: best game of its generation... Summary: 5 StarsWhile playing Dragon Age: Origins today, I was overcome with revulsion as the game's terrible graphics, ghastly art direction, and tedious, clunky gameplay impressed themselves unmercifully upon my fevered brain. Enraged, I ejected the disc and flung it from an open window. So far the holiday 2009 lineup has been extremely underwhelming. It made me realise again just how good the Gears of war franchise is - everything about it - the graphics, the design, and the gameplay are pitch perfect. I spent the rest of the evening replaying the campaigns of both gears one and 2, and found myself completely immersed in its ruined world of shattered pavement and drifting smoke as well as totally engaged by the tactically involved gameplay. Its one of only a handful of games from this generation that I will want to remember.
Customer Review: Awesome game! (But online mode can lag...) Summary: 4 StarsI gave the game five stars for the level of fun, but the overall experience I gave four stars. Everything about the game is amazing, including the campaign (co-op on live or split screen, online play or multiplayer with Bots), but online can be annoying unless you are host because the lag can be extremely frustrating.
I like the game better than part one. The updates and 15 additional maps to download provide almost endless fun. The Horde mode is genius! You take on wave after wave (1-50) of Locus and you can play with 1 to 4 other people online!
I was displeased with the harsh language in this game. Part one had its fair share of language, but this is a warning for parents who intend to buy this game for younger children- there is an option to turn off the foul language- at least the majority of the curse words will be replaced...
Again, the four stars comes with the annoying lag issues that need to be addressed...
Customer Review: A Fantastic Sequel for a Fantastic Game Summary: 5 StarsWhen the original Gears of War came out, I owned an Xbox 360 and played the game religiously both online and solo. Since Gears of War 2 came out, I've since purchased another Xbox because I missed this game and the online multiplayer experience offered on Xbox 360 as opposed to Playstation 3 (which I currently own). The game does a great job of pulling you into the storylines and despite the lengthy cutscenes, I found myself actually interested in what they were saying whereas most games I fast forward through them. Truly what makes this game fantastic though is the online multiplayer mode where you can compete against an opposing team. If you're looking for an awesome story, fast-paced action, and an incredible online multiplayer experience, Gears of War 2 is perfect for you!
