Video Game Reviews of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

Customer Review: An overlooked game...
Summary: 5 Stars

If you're reading this - get Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. It makes a wonderful holiday gift, and you'll be able to afford the low price. Family friendly, and everyone can get enjoyment from it. Try something new. There's no other game like this on the market. It's like a virtual toy box that anyone can use to build something and then use.

-Review-
Alright yeah. B-K fans (I'm one of them) waited 8 years for a new game... they got THIS. A FAR departure from what people want in terms of gameplay from a B-K game.

... but you know what, let's forget all of that. Let's throw away any preconceived views as to what you consider a true B-K game. Because if you do that, and go into the game open minded, you'll find one damn good game.

Gameplay:
This is where the game shines. At your disposal is a huge repertoire of vehicle parts unto which you can unleash your creative side. Cars, boats, planes, large-death-laser-shooting-crazy-machine - if you think of it, chances are you can build it.

But okay, you have all these vehicles, what do you do with them? Well, two things. Spend countless hours screwing around and testing them out... which trust me, is a LOT of fun. The other thing is you use them for challenges. Beating challenges and collecting jiggies is how you progress. The challenges range from races, fetch quests, races, fetch quests - oops, did I say that twice? Well, that was no mistake. Unfortunately the challenges are repetitive. They're fun at first, but when it's a race every other challenge things can get a tad tedious. Of course, there ARE creative challenges. But it's a shame they're few and far in-between.

I digress, if you're like me, the simple fact that you can build all these vehicles should make your mouth water with excitement. And it's not like there isn't great fun to be had in the challenges. You just have to keep pushing yourself to create new vehicles to use.

Graphics:
Gorgeous graphics are to be expected from a game by Rare. This is no exception. Frame-rate stutters *some* times. But overall it's great.

Sound:
Great soundtrack. Rehashes themes from previous games, but still wonderful.

Multiplayer:
What's better than building a vehicle and trying it in a challenge? Well, going online and seeing how your vehicle fairs against others! This game actually has great, unique multiplayer. Problem is, not many people play it. But if you can find a couple of friends to play with... oh my, you may be in for some of the most fun in your life. Test-O-Track. Within that, you may very well find yourself wasting hours upon hours just screwing around with friends. I can't explain how fun it is, you really need to see for yourself. Jumping around on seat with a spring while a Clockwork Kazooie homes in on you - it's hysterical fun.

Then there's actual games you can play. They range from races, king of the hill varient, sumo, soccer, basketball, etc. Nice variety. Great to play with friends.

Overall:
Brilliantly unique game. There's no other game like it. Take a break from the same-old-same-old of games that this industry is littered with - and get Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts.

Customer Review: For the creative and fun types.
Summary: 4 Stars

Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts is filled with great, colorful graphics, huge worlds, 100s of challenges, humor, funny characters, and it gives you the license to be absolutely crazy, or totally efficient in your vehicle designs.

There is a huge variety of parts, engines, jets, sails, lasers, missiles, propellers, wings, 3 type of material (body parts) and each type of material has the following parts: Cube, wedge, corner, panel, T-panel, L-panel, pole, L-pole, and T-pole.

The story mode is really fun, and once you are finished with it, you will be satisfied, its not too long, or too short, and always fun.

The multiplayer is really great, there are so many types of minigames you can play via XBL, or splitscreen. You can play sports games, you can race, or you can have a banjo brawl on land, in the air, water, or even space. You can use the vehicles that you made in each challenge.

One thing about the multiplayer: Every minigame will give you a vehicle that you can use if you don't have one that will do well. But if you just started the story mode of the game, you will be limited in parts, and will most likely have to pick the vehicle they give you in order to have a chance, as people who finished the game, and have strong weapons and super parts, will most likely dominate you. I suggest that you finish the story game before getting to worked up about the multiplayer. You can always do the beginner option, which will make everyone use the same vehicle.

Customer Review: The Most Original Game I've Played in a Long Time
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this game! It's kind of like super mario because of the world with multiple sub worlds and sub challenges, but it has a unique twist. Instead of merely trying to improve your performance on the challenges, you also try to create and tweak the ideal vehicle to use to complete the challenges. I found that what kept me motivated was finding more vehicle parts so that I could continue to upgrade my vehicles. Also, the game is very well constructed with attractive levels and creative challenges. It has kept me interested long enough to complete almost all the challenges/levels.

Customer Review: An AMAZING game worthy of the Banjo Kazooie franchise
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't understand why "BK purists" hate this game. Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie are among my favorite games of ALL TIME, the first one perhaps my favorite, and I LOVE Nuts and Bolts. I think the reason BK purists don't like this game is because they didn't give the game enough of a chance. They played one level and decided they hated it because it's not like the originals, and because they didn't give it more of a chance, they assume the game is nothing but races. It's true, every mission, is in essence, a time trial, but only a fool would think they're all races. There are collection missions, battle missions, races, aerial dogfights, boss fights ( and more than just Grunty, for example, in Nutty acres, you fight Mr. Patch from Banjo Tooie in an aerial dogfight, only this time you actually have a plane with other optional weapons, and not just Kazooie, who flew terribly because of the early 3D gen cameras)

Is the game BETTER than the originals? Yes and No. Yes, it's a much more visually spectacular game, and the soundtrack is phenomenal. But it isn't better than the originals in terms of gameplay. It's about as much fun, or maybe slightly less. It doesn't matter that the two lost their moves, you can make a vehicle that can replace ANY ability they had in the earlier games)

The only reason I can see for someone else not liking the game is they don't have the patience or creativity to actually make their own vehicles. Well, you can always use blueprints that Humba will sell (or even give to you for free).

Now it's for sale here at Amazon for $20. This game is PERFECT for Banjo Kazooie fans, and if you don't believe me, wait till you get to the Banjoland level.
