Video Game Reviews of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

Customer Review: Knights of the Old, really.
Summary: 4 Stars

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II is a good game, but it suffers from the same defect as many sequels: its predecessor was a truly fantastic game. Part of the first game's beauty was the seamless integration of real time combat and a simple to use and understand interface. While still a good game in its own right, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II suffers on a couple of fronts. First, the graphics are inferior to the original game. The story is less compelling, and while neat, the level of customization available for items can detract from the enjoyment of the game. Itemization can be frustrating. The interface is not as user friendly. There is too much information, and the details take away from the enjoyment of the game, rather than helping to immerse you in the game world. Character skills are more important and at the same time marginalized. Plot lines take much longer to develop and personally did not have the same resonance as the first game.

However, even though the above was true for me, I still find myself playing this game frequently. Unlike the first game, however, I will only play this one time. Had this game come first and first game as the sequel, I'm sure my opinion would have been different. While good, this product failed only in that it had to follow in the footsteps of a superior offering from BioWare, creators of innovative and fun games.

Customer Review: More Plot Twists! More Jedi Powers! New Planets!

Knights of the Old Republic II, A.K.A. the Sith Lords or K.O.T.O.R. II. This game rocks!

The saga continues unveiling even more plot twists from the first KOTOR. Be a Jedi or a dark Sith, it's up to you, and your friends will ally with you either way.

Wield new force powers that weren't available in the first game, & explore new planets.

On a scale of 1-10, I'd give this game a 9.6. I've never seen a perfect game. It's only available for the XBOX game console.

Customer Review: 4.5 stars for this great sequel
Summary: 5 Stars

I would have to give this game 4.5 stars. KOTOR 1 is my favorite game ever. This is a great game, but it is not as good as the first one. The storyline is good, but not great, like the first one. There are no huge secrets. It does have great replay value. I have played it through 4 different times, and each time was extremely fun. You can play as different classes of Jedi Knights, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. You can also play as male and female, and there are slightly different storylines with each one. Your leaning (i.e. light or dark side of the force) makes a difference as well. The one thing that this game has better than the first is that you can influence your party members, and have them shift to light or dark side with you. Can't wait for KOTOR 3 for the XBOX 360; I've heard Bioware (the company that made KOTOR 1) will be making number 3!

Customer Review: I sense a disturbance in the force.
Summary: 4 Stars

This is by far one of the best Star Wars genre games to date. It is also one of the top console RPGs of all time. My only complaint is that the game feels somewhat unfinished, as though the publisher rushed the developer into production against deadlines. Several of the character interaction scripts dead-end after one or two conversations and most of the planets offer no reason to revisit them.

Still, the implementation of the 3rd-edition SWRPG rules is excellent, the graphics and sound are tops.

One caveat: On the Xbox 360 the music files and/or sound effect files tend to cut out periodically. Also there are certain spots where the frame rate during battles lags terribly. The frame rate problem seems to be solvable by rotating the camera.

Customer Review: The Old Republic begins to crumble
Summary: 3 Stars

Much darker than the first game, this sequel takes place not long after the events of the first. Revan has vanished, the Jedi have nearly been wiped out, and you are the galaxy's only hope. I won't lie, I found the characters in this game to be even more plausible than in the first incarnation. They are much more flawed (the backstories of some are literally not for children). There seems a greater sense of urgency in this title with the battles being larger and much more action filled. There is also an excellent wrinkle added to the game in your ability to now not only influence your character's path between the light and dark side but also those in your party. Making the right choices help to unlock the mysteries of those traveling with you as well as other points in the game. My only quibble is the ending. It is too ambiguous. I understand the need to set up a sequel, but I require some sort of closure!
