Customer Review: Now THIS is how to do a special edition of a game.

I have to mention that I've already reviewed the Getting Up game itself just a few minutes ago. So for those who are interested in the actual game, go read check out the page for just that. I mean, you should be interested in the game anyway if you're looking at this page. But that review's long enough, and I'd feel weird copying and pasting it back here for something somewhat completely different.
Many games lately have been getting "special editions". Most of which, aren't that special. Maybe an extra character or small level as an addition. Or maybe a special case for the game, bound in leather or something over the usual plastic. But with Getting Up, Marc Ecko really outdid himself, and any other game publisher. Forget the likes of the limited Ultimate Spider-Man, Jade Empire, Perfect Dark Zero, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, or Need For Speed. Those are all sissies compared to this lil' beauty. There's not just an alterternate casing for the game, but a freakin' tin box with a sweet slipcase that goes over it. As if that weren't enough, you're getting a black book that covers the development of the game, and half of it has empty pages for...the silver Getting Up Sharpie that's included, and the official soundtrack, as well as a bonus dvd that covers the making of the game, and some graffiti basics. You couldn't ask for much more.
The black book is very cool, containing a lot of character designs and early looks at New Radius before they were all finalized, looking as they do now. There are some pictures of subway art, different tools of the trade, and pictures of the legends from the game who you should be familiar with by now. This book doesn't go too in-depth on the development, but it shows a good portion of how much effort goes into the littlest things like getting a handshake to look natural in the game. The rest of the book is full of blank white pages for you to throw your own designs in, which I thought was pretty cool. Sure, you could just go out and buy your own black book, but it's nice that they kept that in mind. Personally, I'm keeping the pages blank just to preserve the set, if anything. The silver Sharpie is a great addition, and looks great with the Getting Up logo on it.
The soundtrack...man, that sucker really disappointed me. The game had some great tracks, and most of them aren't on here. In fact, the best track on it is the remix of B.I.G.'s "Who Shot Ya". I was bummed to find out that the music from the last boss fight wasn't on here, as well as some of the better ambient tracks. It's a slap in the face when they have little skits with the characters over actual music. And it's not like there wasn't room or anything- the soundtrack's just barely over 40 minutes long. Oh well, at least they threw in Who Shot Ya. But, there's something else with the soundtrack: when you flip over the part that holds the cd, you get a bonus dvd covering the game's development, trailers, storyboards, and interviews with local graff writers and legends, talking about the history of graffiti. That's probably the coolest thing in this set, and I've watched that thing 4 times today alone. It's not just some lame 10 minute documentary either, like I expected. It covers a lot of ground and takes its time. A definate must for any aspiring writers.
And the tin case, well, just look at it- it's awesome. What more is there to say? If you've played the game, and know you like it, buy this set to get the most for your dollar. And if you're wondering if you'll like the game, knowing you like this set anyway, get it when it goes down in price like I did. No regrets man. This thing sits proudly on my shelf. It's like a mini-holy grail when you take it down and open everything carefully. Let's hope more publishers take this as an example of how to do a limited edition.

In a world where graffiti has been banned and freedom of expression has been suppressed by a tyrannical city government, an unlikely hero rises to win back his neighborhood and become an urban legend of the city of New Radius. Play as Trane, a "toy" (beginner) graffiti artist with the street-smarts, athletic prowess and vision necessary to become an "All City King," the most reputable of all graffiti artists. The sport of graffiti flows through his veins as he risks his life navigating vertical landscapes while battling rival crews, a corrupt Mayor and the city's Civil Conduct Keepers (CCK) all in an effort to reach the sweet spots of New Radius where a well-placed tag brings respect and reputation.
